Album „Magic Is A Child”, wydany pierwotnie we wrześniu 1977 roku, został nagrany w Stanach Zjednoczonych po tym, jak Roye Albrighton, pierwotny gitarzysta i wokalista zespołu Nektar, opuścił zespół w poprzednim roku. Wraz z nowym gitarzystą i wokalistą, Davem Nelsonem, zespół Nektar udał się do studia House of Music w New Jersey, aby nagrać swój ostatni album z lat 70. W nagraniach jako gościnni muzycy wzięli udział wirtuoz syntezatora Larry Fast (Synergy, Peter Gabriel) oraz Robert Fripp (pod pseudonimem Walt Nektroid). Chociaż album ten oznaczał dla Nektar niewielką zmianę kierunku w stronę krótszych utworów, zyskał on na popularności od czasu swojej premiery i dziś jest wśród fanów bardziej popularny niż kiedykolwiek. To rozszerzone wydanie 3-płytowe zostało zremasterowane z oryginalnych taśm i zawiera pięć utworów bonusowych oraz dwie dodatkowe płyty CD z nagraniami koncertowymi z trasy „Magic Is A Child” na Uniwersytecie Hofstra na Long Island oraz w Community Theater w Phoenix w Arizonie w październiku i listopadzie 1977 roku. Nagrania pokazują sceniczny charakter tego składu zespołu. Zestaw zawiera książeczkę z nowym esejem autorstwa Mo Moore'a.
