„Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors” (1990) to debiutancki solowy album Fisha. Fish opuścił Marillion w 1988 roku. Chociaż nagrania do tego albumu zakończyły się już w czerwcu 1989 roku, wytwórnia EMI Records zdecydowała się przesunąć premierę na początek 1990 roku, aby uniknąć kolizji z albumem „Seasons End” Marillion (wrzesień 1989).
Jednak utwór „State of Mind”, z gościnnym udziałem Johna Keeble'a ze Spandau Ballet na perkusji, został wydany jako singel już 16 października 1989 roku, ponad trzy miesiące przed premierą albumu. Kolejne single z albumu to „Big Wedge” (główny singel, 27 grudnia 1989), „A Gentleman's Excuse Me” (5 marca 1990) oraz „The Company” (18 lipca 1990, wydany tylko w Niemczech).
