Po opuszczeniu swojego byłego zespołu UFO i krótkim gościnnym występie ze Scorpions, gitarzysta Michael Schenker założył swój własny zespół - Michael Schenker Group - w 1979 roku.
"One Night At Budokan" został nagrany na żywo w Tokio 12 sierpnia 1981 roku w hali Nippon Budokan. Pierwotnie album miał zostać wydany tylko w Japonii, ale został wydany na całym świecie w 1982 roku. Reedycja wydana przez Chrysalis Records zawiera zremasterowane nagrania, a także kilka dodatkowych utworów.
